You have a Rainbow Star Weaver, now what?
Welcome! This guide will walk you through step by step instructions on how to use your Rainbow Star Weaver to create beautifully braided cords. With just a few simple movements, you can make colorful friendship bracelets, belts, bookmarks, purse handles, coasters, dollhouse rugs, and so much more. Let’s get started weaving your next handmade creation!
The Rainbow Star Weaver is a wonderful handwork tool that invites both creativity and calm. As children (and adults!) work the rhythmic motions of weaving, they naturally build focus, patience, and fine motor coordination. The simple pattern of movement offers a soothing, meditative rhythm that supports self regulation and mindfulness. At the same time, it helps strengthen counting skills, sequencing, and hand eye coordination, all while fostering a deep sense of confidence and accomplishment as each colorful cord takes shape.
Step One: Cut Seven Equal Lengths of Yarn
You can use rainbow colors or create your own mix, the possibilities are endless. Our favorite yarn is 100% cotton, which can be found at most craft stores. But any smaller yarn will work, or even embroidery thread.
Make the lengths a little longer than the finished cord you would like.

Step Two: Tie and Place on Loom
Tie the seven equal lengths of yarn together at one end.
Then place the knot through the middle of the star weaver.

The side with the tail is the backside of the loom
Step 3: Set Up Your Stat Weaver Loom
Place one strand of yarn in each of the seven slots. One slot will remain empty..

Step 4: Now the Fun Begins! It's Time to Weave.
With the empty slot facing you, count three slots of yarn to the right of the empty slot. Pick up the third strand of yarn and move it into the empty slot.

Rotate the loom to move the empty slot back toward you, and then repeat: count three slots to the right, pull the third yarn out, and move it into the empty slot.

Keep this going until you are happy with the length of the braid.
Step 5: Taking the Yarn Off the Loom
Once you are happy with the length of your braid or you are nearly out of yarn, remove all the strands from the loom and pull them through the hole.

Tie another knot on the other side and then use however you'd like!

A Few Things to Note:
The longer the strands of yarn, the more likely they are to get tangled as you weave. Periodically run your fingers through the strands to untangle them as you go.
Long cords can be sewn or stitched together with yarn and a yarn needle to make a spiral coaster, dollhouse rug, or in long lengths to make a scarf!
